Ontario Encaustic Artist & Instructor Jane Burgess
I am an encaustic artist and I love it! Encaustic art uses beeswax mixed with a resin for hardening and oil paints for pigment. The basics involve painting the medium onto a substrate, I usually use wood panels, in layers. Each layer is fused with a heat source. The heat source can be a heat gun, iron or my favourite the blowtorch. After layering comes scraping gouging and all kinds of other fun techniques. I also work with straight oil paint and some cold wax techniques. My images are primarily abstract inspired by colours and shapes in nature. My studio is in Elora, Ontario.
